What I do?
Call me a consultant, instructor, coach, behavior analyst, problem-solver… All of these would be fitting terms to describe the roles that I fill with Parent Training Solutions; yet, first and foremost, I am a parent. Like all parents, I have had moments where I've watched my own children behaving badly and thought, “What should I do in this situation?” However, I'm fortunate that my knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) can help me answer this question. As a parent AND a doctoral-level Board Certified Behavior Analyst, I apply ABA to address my children’s problematic behavior when it occurs and to bring out the best in our children. I apply positive reinforcement to promote my children’s following directions, to teach them to effective and socially appropriate ways to express themselves, and to be more independent in daily activities. I also use my training in ethical and effective use of punishment to address problem behaviors like being too rough with siblings or others, throwing toys, hitting, defiance, etc.
Applied Behavior Analysis works to change behavior. I know this both professionally and personally. This is the reason why I started Parent Training Solutions to teach other parents, caretakers, and teachers strategies rooted in the science of behavior known as ABA.
